Violin Buying Guide

Looking to start off your musical journey with the violin?

Choosing a violin means finding both the right size and model to suit your level. Whether you’re a young beginner or an advancing player, this guide will hopefully help inform you about which model, and size, to go for.

Violin Size Guide:

Violins come in several sizes to suit the player’s age and arm length:

  • 1/4 Size: For ages 5–7
  • 1/2 Size: For ages 7–9
  • 3/4 Size: For ages 9–12
  • 4/4 (Full Size): For ages 12+ or adults

These are rough guides — the right size can vary depending on the player’s arm length and comfort. It’s always best to get measured up in store before purchasing, or asking your teacher what size is suitable.
